Insulter – Blood Spits, Violences And Insults

Hailing from Belo Horizonte, Insulter shared members with Sarcofago and Sextrash in their early years and recorded two demos over the course of 1986-7 in a similar musical and philosophical spirit (i.e. violently chaotic sound, OTT lyrics), recorded two demos, ‘The Insulter’ and ‘The Last Illusion’.

ALAN AVERILL INTERVIEW (PRIMORDIAL/TWILIGHT OF THE GODS): “THE LYRICS AREN’T ABOUT HOW METAL I AM”

As tempting as it was to name every feature in our anniversary issue after Bathory songs, it made sense to title both the Watain feature (‘Wild Hunt’ being an ode to Bathory at their most epic) and this one after the songs of Quorthon. However, we best not call TWILIGHT … Read More

DEATH SS INTERVIEW: “I WANTED TO BREAK THE WORLD”

INTO BATTLE: DUNGEON BEAST

Inspired by classic heavy metal and thrash in equal measures, Dungeon Beast was conceived as a one-off project by Matt Preston, guitarist for the likes of Ghost Tower, Infectonator and Borrowed Time and the resulting sole offering, a sole demo entitled ‘Skeletal Assailants’ (that also featured Johan Skuldronus (ex-Funeral Dirge) … Read More

Giving the album a proper title as well. Tsk, tsk. Such naysayers can rest assured that not only … Read More

SODOM INTERVIEW: “WE STAYED TRUE TO OUR SPIRIT”

“I don’t know,” isn’t the most succinct of answers, but Sodom‘s Tom Angelripper is finding it all but impossible to describe how he sees his long-standing band within the wider context of heavy metal. One of the early (and certainly one of the most initially unrestrained and chaotic practitioners of … Read More

ANTEDILUVIAN/ADVERSARIAL – Initiated In Impiety As Mysteries

While most split LPs are mutually exclusive for both respective bands and recordings, ‘Initiated In Impiety’ goes much deeper than most. Divided up between two of Canada’s keenest exponents of unpitying, ruthless warfare, both bands already purvey a complimentary stile towards each other, but for this have collaborated to present … Read More
