Evil feminist killjoy whose mission in life is to spoil music for everyone. Angela got into music journalism through a desire to pry into the personal business of rockstars and a sense of self importance that entitles her to tell others what they should and shouldn't listen to. Stop sending her your band's awful promos. She doesn't want them. No one does.

Condor – Duin

With production that borders on demo quality, it’s surprising to see that both of Cóndor’s releases are full-lengths. This is a bold move for a band in their infancy, and it would seem that the Colombians have bitten off more than they can chew. Their lukewarm death-doom hybrid has some … Read More

Ghold – Of Ruin

It’s the dawn of man, a group of Neanderthals are sat around their recent discovery of fire, brows furrowed, grunting indiscernibly. Suddenly a time portal opens and through it appears a bass guitar, an amp, pedals and a drum kit. What ensues next is probably the best way to describe … Read More

Windhand – Grief’s Infernal Flower

The third release from Virginian five-piece, Windhand, is a far cry from the dreamy and ethereal soundscapes of 2013’s ‘Soma’. Produced by Jack Endino, who has worked alongside everyone from Nirvana to High On Fire, ‘Grief’s Infernal Flower’ is one of the biggest, darkest and heaviest releases to emerge from … Read More

Limb – Terminal

London four-piece, Limb, have taken long strides in the last year. Not only have they parted ways with drummer Jodie Wyatt and taken Tom Mowforth (ex-Uncle Acid) on board to wield sticks, but they also paired up with extreme metal producer Russ Russell for ‘Terminal’ – an unusual choice when you consider his past clients include Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir and Evile.

Blackqueen – The Directress

The brainchild of Assück’s original bassist Pete Jay, blackQueen was birthed in San Francisco in 1998. The band released a demo and an EP before taking a lengthy hiatus. 2015 sees the return of the self-proclaimed ‘witch metal’ pioneers with a permanent line-up as well as the release of their first full length ‘The Directress’

Blood Fire Death – Playing With Fire

Heavy metal has a long and colourful history with fearsome feats and sideshow spectacles, the extremity often trying to match or outdo that of the music itself. The most popular of circus tricks that springs to mind when pondering the correlation between stunts and the Devil’s music is of course … Read More

ACID KING INTERVIEW: “THAT’S HOW WE FORMED; AN AD IN THE PAPER AND A DRUNKEN PARTY”

Formed as a result of a drunken party, ACID KING existed in the brain of vocalist and guitarist LORI S long before she met her musical companions. Her singular vision has not waned since and 20 years after inception she is still searching for the CENTER OF EVERYTHING

WINDS OF GENOCIDE INTERVIEW: “EXPECT 35 MINUTES OF PURE FUCKING APOKALYPTIC AURAL ARMAGEDDON”

A lot of metal bands have an unconventional tale of how they began, but it’s fairly certain that Durham’s Winds of Genocide are the only group that can boast it being put into motion by a bang on a window. “We officially formed in early 2006, as a two-piece, but … Read More
